A Beginner’s guide to

Korean Beauty for the american adoptee

American beauty trends for the Korean face are not always a perfect match. As a Korean adoptee growing up around very few others that looked like me, I have always known this. I only recently came to realize the magic of beauty trends that work for YOUR face! (is this how good some people have been feeling all their lives?!)

While I have tips gathered from K beauty trends, my main goal is to share with you easy to find products that can help you replicate them and accentuate YOUR features.

To all my fellow adoptees, and anyone else who has felt surrounded by a beauty standard that you don’t fit into, this is dedicated to you. While its contents may not be tailored to all, may it be a reminder that beauty comes in infinite forms - and YOU are and can feel beautiful.

Here’s a big theme for this whole blog:

The tones matter!

After learning a few tricks from YouTube and Korean beauty sites, I quickly ran into the issue that set this whole idea in motion: THE TONES MATTER! If it doesn’t flatter my skin tone (pale, neutral yellowish), it doesn’t flatter me. Suddenly everything looked so….mauve. And there was next to nothing (in comparison to the amount of makeup that exists) that matched the shades of the products being used in the Korean videos I was seeing- and even less that were easily available to me. So I searched, hours, days, everywhere - and this is the collection so far of products that I have found.

I want to put a disclaimer in here that I recognize that everyone has a different skin tone and I encourage everyone to try new things to find what flatters you most even and especially if it means straying from trendy beauty.
