Korean Beauty Lipstick Staples From Mac
My journey to finding what shades suit my pale, neutral, yellowy skin tone started with watching a few videos on the K Beauty ombre lip (which is still beyond my makeup skills) and then a few application videos. This story will fill in with future posts, but for now I’ll skip to when I found that Lisa, a K Pop star did a collab with Mac. Now I’ll be totally honest and just say I don’t know much about K pop but I figured that would be a perfect start to find some classic K beauty shades. After desperate attempts and fails to get my hands on the *Lisa pallet*, I picked up one product : the Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour in “Sorry not sorry“.
This shade changed my life. No really. It’s described on the Mac site as a “dirty pumpkin color“ and complemented my skin in a way no other lip color ever had. Now, I had quite a lipstick collection, but uncapping all of them, I realized they were all…..mauve. I had to second guess every time I assumed my foundation had oxidized and turned me orange and wonder if maybe it had just been poorly matched with mauve lipstick all along.
“Sorry Not Sorry” Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour from the Lisa Collection
The good news is that “Sorry not sorry” was not exclusive to the Lisa collection and seems to be a permanent shade at Mac. The bad news is, it only comes in the Powder Kiss Lipcolour form which is a whipped texture meant to be blotted on the lips. And while it was the perfect color, at the time it was Winter, and that texture didn’t work if your lips weren’t 100% moisturized. Then started the search for the perfect everyday orangey lipstick that I could find regularly in the US. While I wouldn’t say that the three I have to show you today are that similar to this shade, they do appear to be K beauty staples and complement my skin well (And there is a post on the way that does find some similar lipsticks!)
Fast forward to finding the Powder Kiss Lipstick (not Liquid Lipcolour) in the shade “Mull it Over“ described as a “dirty peach“. I always google the swatches of the product I’m interested in buying and what I noticed was that many of the posts were old and many of the people swatching this shade were Asian women. And even more interesting, they were almost always swatching it along with the shades “Chili“ and “Devoted to Chili“. This is my evidence for believing these to be K beauty-like staples. And naturally, I had to try them all and share with you what they look like.
